Lamont Stephenson was sentenced to 31 and a half years in prison Thursday for strangling his fiancée and her dog in October 2014. The 46-year-old landed on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted list after being charged for the crime that same year and evading authorities for five years.

The New Jersey native pleaded guilty to the first-degree murder of 39-year-old Olga "Ivy" DeJesus and her dog, Lola. Stephenson admitted to killing DeJesus because he didn't want to admit he was fired from his job at Pep Boys. After the murder, he fled Newark and began living under a fake name.

Stephenson was finally apprehended in March 2019 after he allegedly killed his girlfriend, Natina Kiah, and her cat in Washington, D.C. Stephenson met Kiah while staying at a homeless shelter where she worked as a security guard.

As a result of DeJesus' murder, Stephenson will carry out his murder and animal cruelty charge without the possibility of parole. His case for Kiah's murder is still pending.
