According to reports, former University of Miami football player, Reshaun Jones, was arrested for the 2006 murder of his teammate Bryan Pata.

Miami-Dade Police confirmed to reporters that Rashaun Jones, a teammate of Pata's from 2004-06, was arrested on Thursday. The 35-year-old was arrested by Miami-Dade police and the U.S. Marshals Service said police spokesperson Alvaro Zabaleta.

“The Pata family has waited a long time to see the individual they had believed involved in Brian’s death arrested and charged,” Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle said in a statement. “While the time needed to build sufficient evidence to ethically charge in a homicide can sometimes feel endless, families should know that the passion and determination of police and prosecutors to resolve unsolved cases does not diminish."

Pata was murdered on Nov 7, 2006, at his apartment complex after being shot in the back of the head. Jones had long been considered a suspect though charges weren't issued until this week. According to former teammates, Jones and Pata had a tumultuous relationship that resulted in two separate physical altercations that Pata got the better of and the fact that Jones dated Pata's ex-girlfriend. Months before the shooting, Pata's brother alleges that Jones threatened to shoot his brother but said he never went to the coach or authorities.
