Jeweler Ben Baller believes he's created the piece "of the decade" for Kid Cudi. On September 6, Baller alerted his followers that he would be revealing the finest chain of his career at last night's Met Ball without saying who would be wearing the exclusive piece.
"I'M DROPPING THE BIGGEST CHAIN OF MY ENTIRE 17 YEAR JEWELRY CAREER ON SEPT 13 AT THE MET BALL," Baller tweeted. "IT TRULY SUMS UP MY POSITION IN THE GAME. 50 YEARS FROM NOW IT WILL STILL BE SHOWN IN MUSEUMS WORLDWIDE. COLLABORATED WITH THE WORLDS BIGGEST ARTIST TO CREATE A 7 FIGURE PIECE."
On Monday, Kid Cudi appeared at the Met Gala with the chain, which is valued at nearly $2 million. The $1.6 million chain is a play on artist KAWS' famous "Holiday Space" astronaut figure. In an Instagram post, Ben Baller described working with Kid Cudi and KAWS to complete the piece, which has been titled, "Space."
"I present you.. THE PIECE of the decade," Ben Baller wrote. "BBDTC X KAWS (OFFICIAL COLLABORATION) Commissioned by @KidCudi. This is the most detailed and intricate piece of jewelry I've ever created in my entire career. From the micro pavé setting on the wrinkles & hoses in the astronaut suit to the functional backpack (has a secret compartment) Thank you KAWS for trusting me to make this piece to the superior #KAWSstandard. Thanks to my entire team at @ifandco as we had to shut down our entire factory for 3 months to make this. Thank you @kidcudi for the vision and our friendship, we always take it to the next next next level."
