In this flashback clip from 2018, AJ Johnson detailed how he landed the Ezal role in "Friday." He claimed he was approached by Ice Cube for the role, but it originally went to Tommy Davidson. After Davidson dropped out of the role, AJ Johnson said he accepted the role and based his portrayal of the character off of his brother who also battled substance abuse.
