Entertainers and athletes have been stressing the importance of taking care of your mental health, and now Taraji P. Henson and Chance the Rapper have discussed topics related to mental health on her ‘Peace of Mind With Taraji’ series.

While on the show, Taraji and Chance the Rapper on the expectation of Black men to “man up,” which led Chance to make a revelation about his life and mental health. Chance noted that mental health issues were discussed too much in his home growing up.

He went on to speak about “dark days,” saying seeing some of his peers get killed in front of him caused mental health issues. The rapper said, “Obviously I deal with PTSD, I saw my friend killed in front of me when I was 19 and I've seen people I didn't know get killed too. You become kind of numb to it, like somebody else died last week but it stays with you, you know what I mean? And you don't realize until later — like I have lasting effects."  Watch above.
