BMF has experienced a resurgence in popularity due to the successful STARZ series detailing the beginnings of the organization. The show's popularity has led to fans dressing themselves and their children as notable Black Mafia Family members for Halloween.

Co-founder Terry "Southwest T" Flenory reposted several images on his Instagram account and expressed his appreciation for fans honoring the organization. However, he warned the children dressing as him and his brother, Demetrius "Big Meech" Flenory, to not follow in BMF's footsteps. He added that children should be more like the actors portraying him and his brother instead of trying to be the next Big Meech and Southwest T.

"Woke up to this after my nap I'm humbly honored as I know my brother would be," Southwest T wrote about the reposted Halloween costumes. "My advice to both these young men is to be better than bruh and I and more like @davinchi @lilmeechbmf."

Southwest T reposted another series of Halloween costumes paying homage to BMF and added, "Wow…Happy Sunday this is too much once again my spirit was moved I truly appreciate the support. I wish my brother was here to see this. Young men I truly want everyone to make wiser and better choices than my brother and I once made. To God be all the glory and praise."

BMF became one of the largest drug trafficking and money laundering operations in the United States after Southwest T and Big Meech founded the organization in 1989. The DEA eventually indicted the group in 2005 and led to the Flennory brother getting convicted and sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Black Mafia Family was founded in 1989 by brothers Terry “Southwest T” Flenory and Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory and quickly became one of the largest drug trafficking and money laundering operations in the country. While Southwest T was released last year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Big Meech remains behind bars.
