Dave Chappelle is considered an inspiration to many aspiring comics, but video footage captured the comedy legend's encounter with one of his heroes.
On Sunday, Scorpio from Grandmaster Flash & The Furious 5 posted video footage of him and Dave Chappelle meeting each other backstage at this past weekend's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony. While Chappelle is the bigger star, he was more starstruck during the encounter and embraced the Hip Hop pioneer with multiple hugs and handshakes.
When Scorpio introduced himself to the comedian, Chappelle responded, "Are you f****** kidding me?! Eddie Murphy used to tell me stories about you being outside of the club wearing clothes like you was from the future. My man. Oh my god. I know exactly who you are. It's an honor, bro. You heard what I said to Jay. Boy, does that not apply to you? Man. It is an honor to shake your hand, brother. You have no idea, man. Kids like me…I was out there, I was listening to you. No bull***."
Scorpio was humbled during the interaction and praised Chappelle's Hip Hop knowledge. The comedian admitted to being inspired by Scorpio and the rest of the group. Chappelle was also amazed at the fact that he was meeting his childhood hero in the state where he currently resides and started holding back tears during the encounter.
"Boy, you inspire the s*** out of me in a way you never he even...oh my god...I can't believe I'm meeting you," Chappelle told Scorpio. "I don't want to take up your time. I just wanted to shake your hand 'cause I love you and I wanted to tell you that...I've admired you since I was a little boy. No bull****. I’m getting teary-eyed just thinking about it. In Cleveland, Ohio of all places. My guy. Much love."
The comedian was one of many celebrity guests, who attended the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony in Cleveland this past Saturday. Eminem, Jennifer Lopez, Chuck D, and Grandmaster Flash & The Furious 5 were among other musical acts who were present as LL Cool J, Jay-Z, and others were inducted.
