A Michigan man goes to prison for murder after being found guilty of spiking her cereal with heroin.
Jason Harris, 47, was found guilty of first-degree murder, solicitation of murder, and delivery of a controlled substance causing the death of his wife, Christina Ann-Thompson Harris.
Harris initially told police that she had trouble holding her spoon during dinner one night and helped her to bed. The following day she was unresponsive and pronounced dead. Medical examiners ruled that an accidental overdose caused her death, but her family insisted she wasn't a drug user. After tests were run on her breast milk which found no trace of opiates, police shifted their investigation and discovered that Jason had been texting multiple women for months. Not soon after his wife died, Harris moved another woman into their home.
“This was a very tragic case and my heart goes out to the family and friends of Christina Harris,” Prosecutor David Leyton said in a statement after Harris’ conviction.
“The circumstances in the case make for a unique story and garner headlines in media but, at the core of it, a family is mourning the loss of their loved one and, I only hope that today’s verdict will help them with closure as they continue to grieve so they can feel some sense of comfort in knowing that justice under the law has been served.”
Harris is scheduled to be sentenced on Dec 10.
