Earlier this year, boxer Oscar De La Hoya was supposed to be on the way back into the boxing world, as he was going to face Vitor Belfort on September 11, 2021. However, De La Hoya was hospitalized ahead of the fight after testing positive for COVID-19. Now, the boxer is back and noted that he is ready for his comeback, for real this time.
The boxer spoke to TMZ and gave a heads up as to what is going down with his future in the ring. “Personally, right now I'm not motivated because of COVID. I was actually in great shape and then COVID hit me, so my morale right now is a little low in terms of me fighting in the ring personally,” De La Hoya said. He continued saying, “But come January, I'm sure I will get right back into it and start training again and prepare myself mentally first. But I do want to get out there again, possible Cinco De Mayo.”
When asked about who he would be up for fighting, De La Hoya named Mayweather. “Who knows, it could be Floyd Mayweather… It's probably the biggest fight you could make today,” said the boxer. Watch above.
