According to reports, the mother of ex-NBA player Corey Benjamin's daughter has been charged following the girl going viral for punching an opponent during an AAU basketball game. Investigators say the mother, Latira Shonty Hunt, allegedly told her daughter to "hit" her opponent.
Hunt, 44, is accused of yelling toward her daughter, “you better hit her for that,” following the girl's entanglement with the opposing player. “In my opinion, it would have not happened, but for mom’s words,” the prosecutor said. For that, Hunt has been charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and battery.
Corey Benjamin, who briefly played for the Chicago Bulls and the Atlanta Hawks, issued an apology following the incident. “As a father, I’m shocked and disappointed at my daughter’s behavior as this is not a reflection of the values and standards that my family holds,” he said. “Nor does it exemplify the values, character, and spirit of sportsmanship that the game of basketball requires.”
