The government agencies from the United States and Mexico appear to be involved in a game of diplomatic tug-of-war over the capture of El Chapo's four sons. Jesús Alfredo Guzmán Salazar, Ovidio Guzmán López, Iván Archivaldo Guzmán Salazar, and Joaquín Guzmán López are all considered to be principal members of the Sinaloa Cartel and highly responsible for the intricacies of drug trafficking from Mexico to the United States of America.
As a result, The Department of State offered $5 million each for their capture. This bounty was established by American authorities on Wednesday, December 15th. But it has since been met with harsh criticism from the President of Mexico. Upon learning about America's new bounty on four of his country's most dangerous drug dealers, Andrés Manuel López Obrador made it very clear that American federal agents were not going to be allowed to arrest those men on Mexican territory.
Although the United States and Mexico worked together on the arrest and extradition of Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán, the mistrust between the two countries likely stems from the fact that the former drug lord successfully broke out of prison twice before he was imprisoned for a third and final time. Both of the elaborate prison breaks happened on Mexican soil. Meanwhile, the recent arrests of El Chapo's former girlfriend (Lucero Guadalupe Sánchez) and wife (Emma Coronel Aispuro) both occurred in America.
Nevertheless, in all three cases, the governing bodies from Mexico and the U.S. had to work together in order to find a resolution. Only time will tell if the two countries can collaborate again, to bring the rest of El Chapo's family to justice.
