Lil Mama crashing Jay-Z and Alicia Keys' performance of "Empire State of Mind" at the 2009 MTV VMAs has been a hot topic in recent weeks, with Alicia Keys being repeatedly asked about the incident in recent interviews.
While Alicia told the Drink Champs crew that she didn't realize Lil Mama was on stage until Jay said something after the performance, Jay-Z weighed in on the situation during a recent chat with Genius’ Rob Markman on Twitter Spaces.
When asked if Lil Mama has been forgiven for the gaffe, Jay-Z stated, "Of course, of course. C’mon. Don’t do that… That’s our sister. Man, we love her. I wouldn’t recommend people just jumping on other artists’ stages..."
Jay went on to explain how he thinks Lil Mama felt in the moment, "She’s a New Yorker… She got excited. Things happen. Of course we love her… yes, she’s forgiven. It’s all love and she was coming from a place of love it’s just… may have been a little too excited."
