When photos first surfaced of NBA YoungBoy donning gothic makeup from his new music video, Black Ball, it sent the social media world in a frenzy. The New Orleans rapper is already one of the more polarizing artists in the hip-hop community but when he revealed his love for cosmetics and the way that appearance-altering makeup helps him express himself; it left many of his fan's feelings puzzled, proud, and intrigued by his new look.

Voodoo makeup does have strong historical ties to the region of Louisiana where the 22-year-old rapper is from, but in an interview with DJ Akademiks on Clubhouse, the Grammy-nominated musician explained, it's not that deep.

"I like doing my face, I like painting my face, putting makeup on. I like to look in the mirror and see everything black. Like my eyes and sh*t," NBA YoungBoy said. "That's 100 percent real. That's me being myself. I feel comfortable that way."

In a text message posted by Akademiks, NBA YoungBoy delivered a message to his detractors and wrote, "Tell them stop liking me I don't give a f*** I got what I came in for. And if you never liked me why it matter."
