Recently, J Balvin was given the Afro-Latino Artist of the Year from the African Entertainment Awards. However, the artist faced backlash for winning, which led him to clarify himself on Instagram shortly after.
While on IG, J Balvin went on to say he isn’t Afro-Latino but thanked the African Entertainment Awards for showing love. The artist wrote, “I’m not Afro-Latino, but thank you for giving me a place in the contribution of Afrobeat music and its movement.”
From there, the AEAs issued a statement, saying, “The Afro Latino category is for any artist based in Latin America that is contributing to the African culture especially the Afrobeats sound globally. It is not based on race but more importantly based on pushing the African culture forward on the world stage.” Take a look above.
