Martin Luther King Day has been observed by every state and city in the United States since the year 2000. But on this Monday, Chicagoans will be celebrating the life of another African American icon, as well as the accomplishments of the former civil rights activist.

Muhammad Ali, a onetime resident of Chicago, will be honored throughout the city today with a ceremonious event that will be commemorated with speeches from the Reverend Jesse Jackson and Maryum Ali. Today would have been Muhammad Ali's 80th birthday.
