For the Cleveland Browns, the 2021 regular season has played out like a series of unpleasant events. They went from being a prohibitive favorite in the AFC North to missing the playoffs altogether amidst speculation that they might be moving on from their franchise quarterback, Baker Mayfield. Last night, they watched their former disgruntled wide receiver, Odell Beckham Jr. have the best playoff game of his career, a few months after they released him from their roster.
The Browns' regular season ended a week ago, but as the old adage in professional sports goes: "The hits keep coming." It's being reported that Malik McDowell, the starting defensive tackle for the Cleveland Browns was recently confronted by police because he was seen walking around naked near a school. According to police documents, the confrontation turned violent when the 290-pound defensive lineman refused to cooperate with the police. Instead, he chose to charge at them full speed, after hurling curse words at them.
After that, a physical altercation ensued and that resulted in the cops wrestling McDowell to the ground, kicking him, tasing him, and handcuffing him before eventually carrying him off the scene on a stretcher. Malik McDowell did not go down without a fight. One of the officers reported multiple injuries sustained including a swollen eye. The entire ordeal took place on Tuesday in Deerfield Beach, Florida.
Therefore, Malik McDowell was arrested and taken to a local jail on charges of aggravated battery on a police officer, resisting arrest, and exposing sex organs in public.
In response, the Cleveland Browns released a statement about the arrest on Tuesday, saying, "We are aware of the very concerning incident and arrest involving Malik McDowell and are in the process of gathering more information...We understand the severity of this matter and our thoughts are for the well-being of all involved...No further comment at this time."
