According to reports, former hip-hop mogul James Rosemond, otherwise known as Jimmy Henchman, could be released from prison early despite serving nine life sentences.

Henchman's imminent release comes on the heels of former President Donald Trump pardoning him on December 18, 2020. The effort to get Henchman out of prison was spearheaded by NFL legend Jim Brown and his wife, Monique Brown.

Henchman is arguing that his imprisonment is unconstitutional due to Trump's pardon. He is arguing that a president's verbal clemency in public is enough to be effective. A judge permitted Henchman's argument and is giving the warden of the prison Henchman is being held to explain why he ought not to be released.

“Summary dismissal of the same is not warranted. Therefore, the Warden shall have twenty-eight (28) days from the date of this Order to show cause why the writ should not be granted,” United States Magistrate Judge James W. Mazzone ruled.
