The former business partner of Akon—Devyne Stephens, is now claiming that Akon owes him almost $4 million.

In the past, Stephens worked with artists like Usher, Destiny’s Child, Jay-Z, and more. The suit filed by Stephens says that a settlement agreement states he’s owed almost $3 million in royalties and $750,000 on top of that. He’s reportedly taken the “Lonely” singer to court two times in the past since they concluded doing business together. The latest settlement between the two was agreed on in 2018, according to reports.

Court documents went on to say, “Akon has spent the better part of a decade frustrating Stephens’ attempts to obtain large amounts of money which Akon unambiguously promised in contracts to pay Stephens.” Stephens claims that Akon also allegedly owes 20% of royalties for four future albums. The former business partner went on to say Akon purposely sabotaged his record deal with Atlantic Records in order to get out of a settlement clause stating he'd have to pay owed royalties to Stephens.
