The prospect of "down low" rappers operating in the shadows of the hip-hop community has always been a touchy subject. In the past, prominent hip-hop figures have even weaponized the notion to attack their rivals in songs and interviews.
On Monday, ASAP Bari boldly addressed the topic head-on in his Instagram Story. In an attempt to condemn men who are unfaithful to their female companions in lieu of a secretive relationship with another man, the co-founder of the ASAP Mob sent social media in an uproar with his poignant choice of words on the matter.
"I love gay ppl by the way I hate low key gay n***as who deal with females but on the low date guys," he wrote. "Stay True to urself and others."
After that, the director of design for VLONE turned up the temperature when he reportedly wrote, "Y'all females better watch out from These low key gay n***as...Y'all better stop going through n***a texts and start looking at they pornhub Lol...F***ing girls and guys was never cool."
In the days that followed his controversial comments, A$AP Bari received a lot of criticism along with accusations of being homophobic towards bisexual men. The Harlem native has yet to respond, as he is currently attending fashion week in Paris.
