Two police officers were shot and killed during an active shooting situation at Bridgewater College in Virginia on Tuesday.
Campus police officer John Painter and campus safety officer JJ Jefferson were shot by the suspect around 1:20 PM local time after responding to calls about a suspicious individual on the small private liberal arts college campus.
According to authorities, Alexander Wyatt Campbell, 27 from Ashland, VA, opened fire soon after his interaction with police before fleeing into the town of Bridgewater after the shooting. He was later apprehended by police while near the North River.
Campbell was charged with four felonies, including two counts of capital murder. He is currently being held without bond. It is not immediately clear whether Campbell was a student at the college, nor have authorities disclosed a potential motive.
