According to reports, the Black Lives Matter founder for the Memphis chapter—Pamela Moses, was sentenced to six years in prison for registering to vote illegally while on probation.

The 44-year-old activist reportedly had felony convictions related to tampering with evidence in 2015 that made her ineligible to vote, but she still registered anyways, according to the Shelby County District Attorney General.

Moses claimed that she was under the impression that her voting rights were restored when she voted in 2019. At her hearing, Moses said, “I did not falsify anything. All I did was try to get my rights to vote back the way the people at the election commission told me and the way the clerk did.” An attorney for Moses noted she is planning on appealing the sentence.
