When it comes to the topic of obesity and body shaming in hip hop, rappers like Heavy D and Queen Latifah have broached the subject in a variety of ways. But none of them have done it in an unapologetic fashion like Lizzo. The soul singer's flair for dramatics and songwriting prowess has given her the ability to troll body shamers in a way that hasn't been done before.
Whether she's shamelessly flaunting her outward appearance on social media while half-naked or showing her support for the body-positive moment with commercial brands like Dove, Lizzo loves every inch of herself and she encourages others to do the same. In an Instagram post dated for Saturday, the three-time Grammy Award winner shared a video of herself in the nude, while audio of her brand new song played in the background.
"If you love me… you love all of me. You don't get to pick and choose," Lizzo wrote. "We should be unconditionally loving of one another, starting with being unconditionally loving to ourselves. Take a moment today and think about the conditions we hold so tightly to that keep us from the freedom of true love. Do you really wanna be so tightly wound? Free yourself in love. You deserve it."
