Upon his highly publicized exit from Death Row Records back in 1996, Compton native Dr. Dre made it his incumbent purpose to work with a slew of New-York based rappers, during the East Coast vs. West Coast beef. In the years that followed, the G-Funk pioneer collaborated with East Coast rappers like Nas, KRS-ONE, Foxy Brown, and AZ. But it appears as though Dr. Dre had an even bigger bi-coastal collaboration in the works right before the release of his comeback album, 2001

In a recent episode of Salute The Sample by Rock The Bells, LL Cool J revealed that he was supposed to record vocals to a track that ended up becoming known as "Xxplosive" on Dr. Dre's second studio album.

“I’ll give people a little trivia: this was originally my beat," LL Cool J said. "I had did a song with Dr. Dre, but it just didn’t quite work, it wasn’t right."

While Dr. Dre did not make an appearance on "Xplosive," the song went on to become a standout track on his album with vocal contributions from Kurupt, Hittman, Six-Two, and the legendary Nate Dogg.

Scroll up to watch LL Cool J discuss the track.
