Thirty years ago, Snoop Dogg introduced himself to the world on a track by Dr. Dre called "Deep Cover." When the gangsta rapper famously said "Death Row is the label that pays me," no one could have ever foreseen the full-circle moment when he would purchase the record company that he once worked for.
Snoop Dogg has remained steadfast in his affinity for the Death Row name, often sighting the sentimental value of the hip-hop dynasty that he was once at the forefront of as a late teen. Today, Snoop Dogg put pen to paper on just how much he values Death Row Records because the West Coast rap legend just announced that he is now the proud owner of the former industry staple. The 51-year-old acquired the rights to Death Row Records from MNRK Music Group. A company that bought Death Row back in 2006, after its officials filed for bankruptcy. The terms of this business transaction have not been released as of yet.
After breaking the news of his new purchase, Snoop Dogg shared his thoughts with his fans.
“I am thrilled and appreciative of the opportunity to acquire the iconic and culturally significant Death Row Records brand, which has immense untapped future value," Snoop Dogg said. "It feels good to have ownership of the label I was part of at the beginning of my career and as one of the founding members. This is an extremely meaningful moment for me. I would like to personally thank the teams at Blackstone, MNRK and especially David Kestnbaum, who worked collaboratively with me over several months to make this exciting homecoming a reality. I’m looking forward to building the next chapter of Death Row Records."
