The Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) has become one of the most notorious drug organizations in all of Mexico and Puerto Rico. Their penchant for torturing, mutilating, and murdering rival gangs are known far and wide in Central America. But perhaps the most disturbing component of their daily operation is the way in which they have weaponized cannibalism to intimidate their enemies. In fact, it has practically become a signature activity for the bitter rivals of El Chapo's former Sinaloan Cartel.

It's being widely reported that in order for new recruits to gain entry into the famous Jalisco New Generation Cartel they have to eat the hearts of their enemies before sleeping next to their corpses, overnight. The effort to desensitize their incoming prospects is a cold-blooded introduction to a bloody cartel war that has claimed over 150,000 victims in Mexico alone.  The notion was reinforced by Nemesio "El Mencho" Oseguera Cervantes, a former member of the cartel who shared some disturbing details about the organization's treatment of incoming prospects with the Daily Beast.

"They are given a choice of one of those pieces to eat in front of the boss," the former CJNG member said. "You have to do it without reacting or vomiting or you are beaten. If you didn’t want to (eat human flesh) they wouldn’t let you leave, they had you there.”

The brutality that is associated with the Jalisco New Generation Cartel has helped them garner a cult-like following. But for those who are daring enough to try out for the criminal organization, they must enter the initiation phase with the understanding that they will be savagely murdered themselves should they fail to complete the task of eating a human heart. Although footage and images from CJNG's cannibalistic practices have become more frequent as of late, there has been no substantial progress made in the effort to dismantle the organization.
