A Highland Park detective named Tiffany Lipkovitch (46) and her 38-year-old accomplice, Amber Bellamy, are facing a maximum of 40 years in prison after pleading guilty to conspiring to distribute fentanyl-laced heroin. The announcement regarding their plea deal was made by the U.S. Attorney's Office last Thursday.
According to reports, when federal agents learned of the duo's illegal operation together, they began to tap their phone calls and record their business meetings in an attempt to uncover an illegal transgression. The plan worked as numerous calls between Lipkovitch, potential clients, and her confidential source were recorded. The nature of these calls and meetings ranged from a description of items, the availability of various drugs, how to properly use the drugs, prices, and the role of Bellamy.
After a series of conversations with a potential client, Detective Lipkovitch introduced the unidentified source to Bellamy while she was on duty and in full uniform to complete the illegal business transaction. In a recorded conversation between the three, Lipkovitch, Bellamy, and the confidential source confirmed they were cutting the drugs with fentanyl.
Lipkovitch and Bellamy were both arrested shortly thereafter, signifying a very disappointing end to an investigation where authorities had to discipline their own brethren. Lipkovitch had been a police officer since 2011.
"Drug trafficking and drug addiction have created a crisis in our communities, something our law enforcement partners know all too well," said Dawn Ison, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan. "It is an affront to the good men and women in law enforcement and to the communities that they serve for a sworn law enforcement officer to betray her oath in this manner."
