Yesterday, a 61-year-old Florida woman named Joan Burke was charged with first-degree murder for stabbing her physically disabled husband, Melvin Weller, more than 140 times.
There were reportedly no indications of violence between the senior couple leading up to the fatal incident that occurred on February 11th. However, Weller filed for divorce from Burke back in December.
According to the Palm Springs Police Department, after the 62-year-old victim was murdered by Burke, his body was discovered by his stepson on the kitchen floor in a large puddle of blood. It's being reported that in addition to the stabbings, Weller was also struck in the head with a meat cleaver.
Burke was detained yesterday and she is currently being held without bail at the Palm Beach County Jail.
