The owner of Fitness Sport in the Peravillo Cuahtemocarea region of Mexico City was briefly arrested after one of his attendees was crushed to death by an oversized barbell.
The victim was a 42-year-old mother who brought her adolescent daughter along with her for a routine workout. But the family experience quickly went to shambles when the mother sat down on the weight bench and attempted to lift a 400-pound barbell from her shoulders. Sadly, the mother lost control of the large weights as they came crashing down on her neck, killing her instantly. The horrific scene was captured on camera, during business hours, right in front of her daughter and several other members of the gym.
Immediately after the incident, the victim's daughter and several onlookers rushed to her aid to remove her from under the weight of the barbell. The daughter was visibly distraught and she has been receiving psychological support ever since. The police investigation is still ongoing.
