Maury Povich and his show ‘Maury’ has been airing through numerous eras of television, and now it appears the show is coming to an end after 31 seasons on-air.
Maury Povich is ending the show after 24 seasons on NBCUniversal Syndication Studios. The show host is reportedly retiring. Previously, the ‘Maury’ show was renewed in February 2020 for two more nationally-syndicated seasons. The show covered many topics over the years, with some of the issues pushing the boundaries for daytime television. Eventually, Maury’s rise into daytime dominance for years stemmed from his affinity to conduct paternity tests. The reactions from guests discovering if they are or are not the parent of a child in question became a part of pop culture.
NBC Universal will continue to keep episodes of ‘Maury’ in syndication, despite ceasing production. Maury spoke on the latest news, saying, “Six years ago when I was ready to retire, the NBCUniversal family asked me to continue the show. Even though I told them I was ready for assisted living, out of loyalty to NBCUniversal and my more than 100 staff and crew members, Tracie Wilson and I agreed to one more deal. I’m so proud of my relationship with NBCUniversal and all those who worked on the ‘Maury’ show, but as I occasionally tell my guests on ‘Maury,’ ‘Enough, already!”
Maury is joining the likes of other talk show hosts like Jerry Springer, who held down TV for decades. Springer halted production on his show after 27 years.
