Upon hearing the news that Kanye West had been banned from performing at this year's Grammy Awards due to his disturbing online behavior, rap mogul J Prince suggested that other iconic rappers such as Drake and Nicki Minaj team up and form an award show of their own. Not only did J Prince's call for action amongst the biggest Black musicians in the music industry make headlines in news cycles, but it appears to have captivated the minds of the most influential curators of the urban culture as well.
Yesterday a TMZ camera operator caught up with Quavo and asked him to share his thoughts on the idea that J Prince presented about banding together and boycotting the Grammys. From the sound of things, the notion of a protest really struck a nerve with the Atlanta native.
"Let's do it," Quavo said. "We need to make our own awards. Awards that appreciate the real s**t that's going on in the streets, that appreciate the culture, that appreciate when guys are the best new artists."
The multi-platinum rapper didn't just stop there as he soon shifted his attention to the powers that be at XXL magazine.
"Instead of a Freshmen Class, we need the "Best New Artist" in the streets whenever they come out," he added. "[Migos] couldn't go on Freshmen Class because we was a group. So, just s**t like that. All these little stipulations on our artistry is lame because we're creators."
Scroll up to watch Quavo drop a hot take about the decision-makers at the Recording Academy and XXL Magazine.
