A slow-motion video of Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at The Oscars seems to verify the authenticity of the incident. When it initially aired, most people wondered if this was a real event or simply a publicity stunt both men were in on. Will took the stage shortly after to accept his award for Best Actor, where he tearfully apologized for his actions.

During the live taping of The Academy Awards, Will Smith shocked the world when he slapped Chris Rock on stage. Will then sat down and shouted to Chris: "keep my wife’s name out of your f***ing mouth!"
