Ralo's incarceration will reportedly last longer than he originally revealed earlier this month. Two weeks ago, the rapper announced he would be free in October 2023. However, a new report claims he will be spending more years behind bars after reaching a plea agreement.
The Atlanta rapper's lawyer filed a sentencing memorandum following his plea deal, according to new court documents. Ralo and his defense team have allegedly requested a nine-year prison sentence. The rapper -- whose real name is Terrell Davis -- has already spent the past four years behind bars. Therefore, he would likely serve five years if his request is granted.
"For the past four (4) years Mr. Davis has been incarcerated in deplorable conditions at the Robert A. Deyton Detention Center, the Floyd County Jail, the Clay County Detention Center and the United States Penitentiary in Atlanta, all during COVID-19," his attorneys claimed in the filing. "He has spent much of this time reflecting on how he will rise above his trauma and crime laden past by engaging in only lawful activities in the future."
On behalf of Ralo, his lawyers were apologetic for the rapper's alleged crimes and claimed the music artist is prepared to live a crime-free life once released. They pointed out Ralo's troubled childhood and added that Ralo would like to "break the cycle" and become a positive influence on the younger generation.
"Counsel has spent uncountable hours discussing with Mr. Davis the need for him to use his platform to break the cycle of crime, violence, hopelessness, anger and illiteracy so the next generation has better opportunities," Ralo's lawyers continued. "Undersigned counsel is convinced that Mr. Davis, once released from custody, will be a positive force for lawfulness and will lead the next generation to be focused on education and creating a non-violent, peaceful society."
Ralo was arrested in 2018 for marijuana trafficking. Law enforcement also raided three Atlanta locations in connection to the case. In 2021, Drake, Meek Mill, Killer Mike, 2 Chainz, Quavo, T.I., and many others signed a letter requesting clemency for Ralo. Other notable celebrities who spoke out in support of Ralo's release include Deion Sanders, John Wall, and Kevin Garnett.
Despite their efforts, Ralo has remained in custody. While prosecutors agree with his sentencing recommendation, it will ultimately be up to the judge to decide how much time Ralo receives.
