Update 04/05/2022 11:15am:

Previously, footage surfaced of an event being held in Washington, D.C. at Bliss Nightclub called The Last Show. The event was held as a celebration of life for the late rapper Goonew. The rapper’s send-off ultimately went viral after his deceased body was seen standing upright while wearing sneakers, jeans, a hoodie, and a crown. Bliss Nightclub began to face backlash after people called out the venue for allowing the rapper’s body to be propped up during what appeared to be a party. Now, the club has responded with a statement.

Bliss Nightclub went on to say, “Our deepest condolences to Goonew’s family, friends, and fans. Bliss was contacted by a local funeral home to rent out our venue for Goonew’s home-going celebration. Bliss was never made aware of what would transpire. We sincerely apologize to all those who may be upset or offended. Please keep Goonew’s family and friends in your prayers at this difficult time, respectfully.” Take a look above.

Markelle Antonio Morrow, the 24-year-old Maryland rapper known as Goonew, was laid to rest after a lively celebration at Bliss nightclub in Washington DC on Sunday (April 3).

Footage from the funeral has made its way across social media due to the unique celebration, as it appears that Goonew was propped upright on a stage to appear like he was performing at a show. Goonew was dressed in jeans and an Amiri sweater, along with a crown on his head. Guests took photos and cheered while fireworks were set on the stage next to Goonew's body.

Goonew was shot and killed in District Heights, MD on Friday, March 18. His mother, Patrice Parker Morrow, told CBS affiliate WUSA that her son was on his way to give his younger sister a birthday gift when he was shot. Morrow stated, "All he wanted to do is try to get his family and his friends out the hood. He had a heart bigger than his body. When they took him, they took me."
