Earlier this year, news surfaced noting Offset was being sued by a luxury rental car company after allegedly failing to return a vehicle. An agreement between the company and Offset was drafted for a new 2020 Bentley Bentayga for a few days at a rate of $600. However, the rapper kept pushing back the date with the new agreement allowing him to have the car until July.
Soon after the latest extension, Offset told the company he was unaware of what happened to the car, who had it last, and where it was. They also claim that Offset stopped paying on the vehicle after his July 25 lease was up despite the car never being returned. Since then, Offset has claimed he never signed the rental agreement and is now asking a judge to reverse the $950,027 default judgment.
In his case, offset filed a sworn statement, saying he never signed the agreement, nor did he ever drive the vehicle or have possession of it. The rapper said the car was leased to the mother of one of his children. Offset said the Platinum Transportation Group knew Oriel Williams was the person who actually rented the vehicle and that he only agreed to cover the rental cost. He noted he immediately called Platinum after Williams hit him on the phone in July 2020 to say the rental was missing from the designated parking space outside her gated community.
In his declaration, Offset said, “I was told by a PML representative that PML would report the car stolen to the authorities. I did not steal the car, and I reported the car missing to PML as soon as I was advised by Williams that the car could not be located. In or about July 2020, I was informed by PML that the car was reported stolen to the Los Angeles Police Department and that they were investigating the theft of the car.”
Lawyers for Offset requested a stipulation to vacate the default judgment, with the Migos star even offering to pay fees for both sides. However, lawyers for Platinum allegedly said they were “too busy” to consider what was being offered by the rapper. A hearing for the case has been scheduled for next month. Stay tuned for more updates.
