New reports claim the accused Brooklyn subway shooter—Frank James and R. Kelly, have become friends while in jail.

Both men are awaiting trial for their cases. James is in custody after allegedly shooting numerous people in a Brooklyn subway. The alleged shooter faces charges of committing a terrorist attack against a mass transportation system and discharging a firearm during a violent crime. James pleaded not guilty to the crimes.

Jail sources say Kelly and James “sit together and eat together,” with the pair spending time together and going “out to rec.” A lawyer for R. Kelly—Jennifer Bonjean, said, “Mr. Kelly is not in control of who he is housed with. A friend is someone you voluntarily hang out with.” Along with that, R. Kelly reportedly has been putting on performances while in jail, with the singer recently performing an acapella rendition of “I Believe I Can Fly” for a select group of inmates. As of now, R. Kelly faces a mandatory minimum of 10 years to life in prison.
