Update 05/27/2022 3:21pm:

Previously, Sha’Carri Richardson spoke about getting out of a relationship with a Jamaican sprinter, who she says was abusive. Now, the sprinter in question—Janeek Brown, has broken her silence on the allegations of abuse made by Richardson, seemingly confirming abuse took place during their time together.

During an Instagram Live session, Brown spoke about the situation with her ex, saying, “I was abusive once that there’s physical evidence of. And we moved on, and even after then I was trying to move on from that, we still got nowhere.” Brown then accused Richardson of clout chasing before suggesting she should file charges against her if she feels the need to do so. Sha'Carri Richardson took to Instagram to reveal that she recently got out of a relationship with a Jamaican sprinter, who she claims was abusive.

On Monday (May 16), Sha'Carri shared a message on her Instagram Stories, which reads, "I was in a relationship with a Jamaican athlete that never cared about me from jump. I was abused and stole from yet protected her from the judgement of her country and family while they dragged me. I had to deal with [homophobia] and so much more that I'm still healing from."

Sha'Carri, who rose to fame in 2019 as a freshman at Louisiana State University, running 10.75 seconds to break the 100 m record, then shared a photo of her and her ex. The following year, Richardson qualified for the Summer Olympics after running 10.72 seconds, making her the sixth-fastest woman of all time and the fourth-fastest American woman in history. However, she tested positive for cannabis use following her 100 m final at the U.S. Trials and was barred from competing at the Olympics.
