Russ has been very critical of the music industry since his rise to success while remaining an independent act versus dealing with record labels. While many have called out the rapper to diss him, he’s used his music and drive to push towards earning $10 million since going independent again. Now, Russ has called out the music industry again, focusing on record labels.

While speaking to TMZ, Russ referred to the music industry as “obsolete,” saying labels aren’t doing anything you can’t do for yourself and that some artists aren’t business-minded. He noted that “digital marketing” teams are questionable and said that he isn’t great for the future of record labels, as he’s been exposing their tactics. Russ then said all you need is a consistent fanbase where you engage with your fans.

The rapper then spoke about the worse part of being on a record label in the past, saying giving up money to people for stuff he knew he could handle himself was the main thing. “Why am I giving y’all 50 percent of the profits when y’all are not putting up 50 percent of the work?” said Russ.
