Back in the mid-90s rumors of an unexplained creature with the capability of walking on its hind legs that preyed upon livestock began to emerge throughout various parts of Puerto Rico. Local farmers named the creature "chupacabra," which translates to the term "goat sucker" in the English language from Spanish, largely because of the creature's proclivity for draining the blood of its victims. Since then, several stories and eye-witness accounts have placed the violent creature at the scene of farmland all throughout Mexico and the rest of Central America, yet its existence remains an unconfirmed mystery till this very day. A recent sighting of an unidentified creature, walking on its hind legs, near the Amarillo Zoo in Texas has once again triggered speculation about the possibility that chupacabra's are amongst us and city officials are taking the ordeal pretty seriously.
"The Amarillo Zoo captured a strange image outside the zoo in the dark and early morning hours of May 21 (around 1:25 a.m.)," wrote the City of Amarillo, from their official Twitter account. "Is it a person with a strange hat who likes to walk at night? A chupacabra? Do you have any ideas of what this UAO- Unidentified Amarillo Object could be?"
There is always a possibility that the entire ordeal could have been a hoax, but since the sighting occurred no reports vandalism or criminal activity that stem from the incident. For now, city officials and upper management at the Amarillo Zoo are still trying to ascertain the evidence while also prioritizing the safety of the animals behind the park's gates.
The sighting even prompted a response from Amarillo Director of Parks and Recreation Michael Kashuba. “It is important to note that this entity was outside the Amarillo Zoo. There were no signs of attempted entry into the zoo."
