According to reports, DJ 50 Grand has passed away. The DJ was known for passing along the Notorious B.I.G.’s demo tape along to DJ Mister Cee, who then spread the word about the rising Brooklyn rapper.
Born Kevin Griffin, 50 Grand was a DJ and producer who linked up with Biggie in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn. Previous interviews pinpointed when 50 Grand and Biggie started working together, with 50 Grand noting they started in 1991. Biggie’s demo landed him in the ‘Unsigned Hype’ column of the magazine, which eventually got him signed to Bad Boy Records.
The cause of Griffin’s death hasn’t been confirmed. He was 55-years-old at the time of his passing.
