With a strong presence on social media, Remi Bader is quickly becoming one of the most recognizable plus-size models in the world. But the 26-year-old's recent trip to Deep Hollow Ranch in Montauk, New York may have accelerated her pathway to fame exponentially. On Saturday, Barder took to TikTok and posted a short clip of the now-infamous ranch along with text on the screen that read, "Shoutout to Deep Hollow Ranch in Montauk for making me leave because I weigh over 240." Beneath the video, Bader added a small caption, “I’ve rode horses before and have never had this issue. Please advertise this on your signs for the future.”
Bader posted the video after an unwelcoming experience at the Ranch, during which time a female ranch hand reportedly singled her out in front of an entire group of other would-be customers and announced, "You can't ride" because she weighed too much. When Bader explained that she had ridden horses before and that she had never been informed of any restrictions of that nature, the employee allegedly spat on the ground before saying, “That’s not my problem.”
The video that Bader posted about her visit to Deep Hollow Ranch prompted a harsh response from a teenager who is rumored to be the son of the owner at Deep Hollow Ranch. He fired off a verbal shot that has since made Barder a sympathetic figure all over the web.
“When you’re not a fat b*tch, you can ride at Deep Hollow Ranch,” said Broudy Keogh.
This seemingly ignited a war of words amongst TikTok followers, some of whom were for and against Bader. It also garnered a statement from the Deep Hollow Ranch which addressed her directly and the man who called her a "fat b*tch."
"It has come to our attention that a TikTok video was posted regarding the ranch and a teenage employee posted a response that in no way represents nor is aligned with the views that the owners of the ranch hold," Deep Hollow Ranch stated. "We would like to apologize to anyone who this offended and we do not condone or agree with any part of that employee's video."
According to studies, the amount of weight that a horse can carry is largely based on the breed. Some horses have been known to carry over 250 lbs while others can only hold around 150 lbs. Either way, Bader's willingness to go public about the aforementioned incident has brought more awareness to the discrimination that the plus-sized community faces on a daily basis.
