According to reports, the U.S. Supreme Court officially overturned Roe vs. Wade. The precedent set 50 years legalized abortion. It was noted the reversal of the law is not automatically put into effect across the country, as the issue will be left to the 50 states. Out of the 50 states, 13 of them have trigger laws that will effectively outlaw abortions once the court overturns the law.
Justice Samuel Alito issued a statement on the decision, saying “We hold that Roe and Casey must be overruled. The Constitution makes no reference to abortion, and no such right is implicitly protected by any Constitutional provision ... It is time to heed the Constitution and return the issue of abortion to the people's elected representatives.” Alito went on to say “Roe was egregiously wrong from the start.”
