Earlier this week, U.S. District Judge Drew B. Tipton sentenced a Texas man named Yen-Tsun Huang (aka The Hungry Texan) to 90 months in federal prison after he was convicted of trying to smuggle drugs into America, at a checkpoint station in the city of Falfurrias.
According to reports, law enforcement found it a bit peculiar that the 30-year-old started nibbling at his cheeseburger from McDonald's immediately as his vehicle approached the checkpoint, especially considering the fact that the closest McDonald's restaurant was about 60 miles away. When a K-9 sensed that narcotics might have been present, "The Hungry Texan" was sent to a second checkpoint for further inspection by the Drug Enforcement Administration, along with Customs and Border Protection.
The dual investigation resulted in the discovery of a pair of brick-shaped items between Huang's legs. It turns out that the bricks contained about 738.56 grams of methamphetamine. The incident occurred in July of 2020 and Huang pleaded guilty in November of that same year.
In addition to his lengthy prison sentence, Huang will be issued an "immigration detainer," which will cause him to lose his U.S. citizenship. From there, he will be transported back to his native country of Taiwan once his stint behind bars has reached its conclusion.
