Last year, family members of Emmett Till tried to get the case of the slain boy reopened decades after the tragic incident went down but had their plea shut down due to “lack of evidence.” However, it appears the family of Till discovered an unserved arrest warrant for Carolyn Bryant, the white woman who made the allegations against Till, resulting in him being shot, beaten, lynched, and thrown into a river. In 1955, the woman claimed Till whistled at her while in a Mississippi store, which led to the tragic incident occurring days later.
While the family of Till has hopes of the now-elderly woman serving out the rest of her years in jail, they reportedly tried to see Bryant face-to-face in the meantime.
Video footage showed protesters heading to a senior citizens complex in Raleigh, North Carolina, where Bryant is allegedly staying, to call out the woman. The group of people outside the home could be heard saying, “It’s time for you to answer,” while other parts of the group chanted “Black power.”
Activists are pushing for Bryant to be extradited to Mississippi so she can face charges in court. Stay tuned for more updates.
