Just over one week ago, the professional wrestling company known as the AEW crowned Swerve In Our Glory (aka Keith Lee and Swerve Strickland) the new tag team champions of the world. Their riveting victory came during FYTER Fest Week 1 in a triple threat match against The Young Bucks (the former Champions) and a dynamic duo consisting of Ricky Starks and Powerhouse Hobbs. Last night, during the AEW's weekly primetime broadcast on TNT, the newly crowned champs strutted down the ramp and into the ring amidst showers of congratulatory chants from the live audience at Gas South Arena in Duluth, Georgia. Their in-ring commencement was highlighted by a special shout-out to a celebrity fan of theirs who had been sitting in the front row, Kevin Gates.
The lovefest was interrupted rather abruptly when Mark Sterling and Tony Nese crashed the party and made their way to the ring with a petition that alleged that Swerve In Our Glory won the tag team championship belts because of foul play. This prompted Sterling to insist that Kevin Gates sign the petition to which the 36-year-old rapper declined. From there, a face-off between Nese and Gates ensued, resulting in the latter throwing a right hook that put the professional wrestler on his back.
As of now, there is no word on whether or not Kevin Gates will partake in a professional wrestling match at an AEW event anytime soon, but the 6'2 rapper more than held his own on Wednesday night.
