Lou WIlliams is one of the NBA's greatest 6th Men but for a short period of time his on-the-court prowess was secondary to his viral moniker - "Lemon Pepper Lou."
It began during the 2020 NBA bubble in Orlando when Williams took a quick trip to Atlanta to hit up Magic City with Jack Harlow. However, the trip was strictly against the league's COVID policy at the time and the detail about WIlliams picking up chicken from Magic City was the kernel of info the internet needed to make him a viral meme.
"It was difficult for me, because I felt like it was getting to a point where all the s--t I accomplished, how I've carried myself over my career, they were just trying to attach some goofy s--t to my name," Williams said (43:40 mark). "So, I was fighting a narrative. I was fighting a narrative, because they were trying to make me out to be a goofy. Like I was out here trippin'. And I was like, 'C'mon, that has never been my M.O. Let's not start that.' I'm getting to the end of my career. I'm in year 15, and y'all talkin' like I've been trippin' this whole time."
But after initially pushing back against the narrative surrounding "Lemon Pepper Lou," the NBA vet has since trademarked the name which has proven to be a lucrative and savvy business move.
