According to court documents, Big Sean and Megan Thee Stallion are being taken to court over allegations they ripped off a song from a songwriting duo.
The documents found Harrell James and Duawn Payne suing Megan and Big Sean, along with Universal Music and 1501 Certified Entertainment. James and Payne reportedly go by “H Matic” and “Go Hard Major,” and they claim to have penned the song “Krazy” in 2012. Both artists say they passed the CD out around Detroit and performed in different clubs along the way.
Since then, Megan Thee Stallion dropped her album ‘Good News’ in 2020, which featured the song “Go Crazy.” The duo says the song is “an original work of authorship and is particularly unique as a result of its catchy chorus—or hook—the centerpiece of the Copyrighted Work.” They claim the melodic sequence is identical and that Big Sean also had access to their work.
The success of Megan and Sean’s song led the songwriting duo to say, “Upon release, the Infringing Work sold reportedly 100,500 units for the first week of its release. Since the debut, the Infringing Work has reportedly gone platinum, meaning more than one million copies have been sold.” H Matic and Go Hard Major then filed a cease and desist in March 2022. Still, they claimed the major artists went on with their “willful and reckless disregard” of their copyrights.
Megan Thee Stallion and Big Sean are being sued for copyright infringement, and the suit is asking for unspecified damages.
