Sacramento rapper Mozzy turned himself over to police on Thursday (July 28) to begin serving his 1-year sentence for a federal gun charge.

The sentence is linked to charges that stemmed from a traffic stop in January of 2021 in Culver City, California. Police say that after Mozzy was pulled over for a traffic violation, they smelled marijuana in his vehicle, which was promptly searched. Inside, police found a Glock 26, 16 rounds of 9mm ammunition, and marijuana.

Mozzy wrote a letter to the judge in his case, which stated, "This case made me realize that everything I have accomplished and built can be taken away because of a single mistake or lapse in judgement. I once read that, ‘a stumble may prevent a fall.’ I believe this was my ‘stumble’ which will prevent me from taking a ‘fall’. I think I needed something like this to give a little more structure to my life."

The judge ultimately sentenced Mozzy to two months over the government’s recommendation of ten months.
