Instagram has been making its way by trying to compete with the likes of platforms like TikTok. However, it appears the new changes IG was set to implement that mirror TikTok’s setup caused much backlash. Influencers like Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner called out the brand for its attempts to shift to a TikTok-like look, causing Instagram to pull back on its new move.
The plan for Instagram to was to alter its algorithm so users could be exposed to video content from outside of their friends and followers. IG Head Adam Mosseri addressed the matter, saying, “I’m glad we took a risk – if we’re not failing every once in a while, we’re not thinking big enough or bold enough. But we definitely need to take a big step back and regroup. [When] we’ve learned a lot, then we come back with some sort of new idea or iteration. So we’re going to work through that.”
The last time Kylie Jenner publicly about a platform was when she called out Snapchat. Jenner talked about how she doesn’t use Snapchat anymore, and her tweet found the company losing almost $1 billion in market value. Take a look above.
