In this clip, Tavis Smiley detailed how he landed his internship with the first black mayor of LA, Tom Bradley. He recounted the persistence it required for him to land the position, which consisted of weekly letters sent to Bradley’s office. Tavis said it wasn’t until the mayor read the personal note addressed to him that he reached out and began what was a long-term friendship and working relationship.
