In this clip, Tavis Smiley recounted meeting and cultivating a friendship with Muhammad Ali. He talked about Ali setting the example for those who live a principled life because of what he was willing to sacrifice to stand on his beliefs. Tavis said he’s always humbled when in the presence of greatness, be it, Muhammad Ali or Prince.
Smiley also discussed the mutual respect that Michael Jackson and Prince had for one another. He recounted Prince’s reaction to Michael’s passing, revealing that Prince locked himself away from everyone for days until returning to rehearsals for a then-upcoming show. Tavis also described how Prince’s attention to detail made him a genius.
